What is the ruling regarding gelatin made from animals in western countries which are used in many medicines and food products?

If it is herbaceous gelatin or known to be from an Islamically slaughtered animal, it is Tahir (pure) and permissible to use. But if it is obtained from Najis (impure) animals, its use is prohibited because there is no certainty of its Istiḥalah (transformation) and it is also not permissible to eat products which contain materials from un-Islamically slaughtered animals. However, if there is a doubt about it being herbaceous, fauna or impure, it is ruled as Tahir and it is also not obligatory for the Mukallaf to inquire about it and one can use the product unless one is aware of it being made of a Najis animal. However, if major changes have taken place in that material and it is proven to have undergone Istiḥalah, it is permissible to consume it although one must inquire with experts in this field.
