Istifta'at

Which wine is considered Najis (impure) and is prohibited to consume? Which alcohol is Najis and which one is Tahir (pure)?

Wine is an intoxicating liquid and is only made from grapes, although liquid and solid intoxicants which are not made from grapes are Tahir. However, eating and drinking them is not permissible. If alcohol is liquid and made from grapes it is Najis and drinking it is forbidden, but if it is made from something other than grapes, be it liquid or solid, it is Tahir but eating and drinking it as well as adding it to food is not permissible.
