Thursday 20th August of 2020, first of Muharram 1442 A.H

السَّلامُ عَلَیْکَ یا اَباعَبْدِاللَّهِ وَ عَلَى الاَْرْواحِ الَّتى حَلَّتْ بِفِناَّئِکَ عَلَیْکَ مِنّى سَلامُ اللَّهِ اَبَداً ما بَقیتُ وَ بَقِىَ اللَّیْلُ وَ النَّهارُ

The office of Ayatollah Sayed Kamal al-Haydari announces that Thursday, 20^th August 2020 will be the first of Muharram 1442 A.H.

The scientific and astronomic calculations show that at the evening of 19^th August moon sighting is possible with telescope in several parts of Asian and African continent as well as some Arabic countries and also it is possible by naked eyes in case of clear air for an experienced person. Moon sighting is also easily possible in some parts of American continent (north and south) with naked eyes. It is because the Geocentric New Moon (الاقتران المركزي) will occur on Wednesday 19th August 2020 at 02:42 GST.

Thus, Thursday 20^th August 2020 is first of Muharram and the beginning of year 1442 A.H and the start of Mourning of Muharram and lamentation rituals for the beloved grandson of holy prophet of Islam, Imam Husayn a.s, his family and companions.
